What Is Book Coaching?

Instead of one round of intensive editing and limited access to your editor when questions pop up later, Book Coaching is an ongoing relationship, developing your ideas, building your confidence as a writer, and leading you through writing the book of your dreams!

This is a great service for writers who are ready to crank out their novel and who want to know right away what's working and where they need to adapt their ideas. Coaching is high support and high accountability.

Are you ready to write the book of your dreams?

Contact me for a free discovery call to talk about where you are in the writing process and what your goals are. Looking forward to hearing from you!

Book Your Discovery Call

"The First Draft"

Support for first drafts, prewriting activities, and getting unstuck early in the writing process.

Consider this phase a workshop for early stages of writing. This is good for brainstorming, worldbuilding, character development, and plot outlining. We will also brush up on key writing skills and techniques, including style, grammar, plot development, creating dynamic characters with strong (and realistic!) dialogue, your writing tendencies, and story organization. Our end goal is to craft your first complete draft of the manuscript.

Whom is this right for?

Writers in prewriting phases or just starting a first draft, inexperienced writers, and writers needing high support or accountability.

Whom is this not right for?

Writers with full-length manuscripts looking for high-level feedback or ready for heavy revision.

We will work together to create a custom plan to get your idea out of your head and onto paper.

Our plan will include goals and milestones, deadlines, and a writing schedule that fits your lifestyle. We'll also figure out how often we'll exchange writing and edits. We will share ideas through a combination of email, new writing, and supplementary materials. This service also pairs well with regular Feedback Review sessions to hash out ideas together in a conversation.

It's Your Time!

I would love to discuss where you are and what ideas you have for your book! Contact me for a free consultation.

Let's Write!

"The Revision"

Developmental Editing commentary for completed manuscripts ready for revision and rewriting.

This is the heavy lifter of the editing and revising phases: most of your rewriting will happen here. Developmental Editing is a 30,000-foot overview of your entire manuscript and how its elements are functioning, including structure and content, organization, target audience, character development, plot and plot holes, and inconsistencies in point of view and tense. Our end goal is a sophisticated manuscript ready to address sentence-level elements. This may be accomplished in one draft or multiple revisions.

Whom is this right for?

Writers of any caliber or phase in their career with a full-length, completed manuscript of at least 50,000 words (special cases for novellas of under that limit will be considered if the manuscript is complete). You should be ready to begin adapting your work for your target reader and self- or traditional publication.

Whom is this not right for?

Writers still working on idea development or who only have a partial draft. If that's you, you may want to consider "The First Draft" or even a Manuscript Evaluation first.

We will dig into the inner workings of your manuscript and make it every reader's dream.

Commentary on the manuscript is highly detailed and very specific across the entire work and each instance an issue arises. In addition to in-text comments, I will also produce an essay-style review of major tendencies I notice. We may even utilize outside resources to help you improve your overall writing craft.

You Have an Amazing Story to Tell

Wrangle Unwieldly Subplots

"The Final Draft"

Line- and Copyediting to finesse your style and technicality.

Two for the price of one! This sentence-level editing combines line editing and copyediting to address both the art and style of writing and the technical correctness of your sentences.

Line Editing seeks to improve your artistic style through elements like word choice, voice, clarity, and readability. Consider how much livelier your writing would be if we exchanged weak verbs paired with adjectives for strong, stand-alone verbs! (Think, "ran swiftly" vs. "sprinted.")

Copyediting, on the other hand, deals strictly with grammar adherence and technical details like continuity, consistency in format, word choice (in regard to word repetition), and syntax. We can also take a look at any non-book materials, including a table of contents, appendices, acknowledgements, etc.

By the end of this editing phase, your manuscript should be ready for polishing,  final formatting, and preparations for submission, querying, and beta readers. I still recommend a final Proofread.

Whom is this right for?

Writers of any caliber or phase in their career with a completed manuscript that has previously undergone Developmental Editing to address all major story elements. You are serious about finishing your project for publication and are ready to get nit-picky. This phase is great for projects of any length.

Whom is this not right for?

Writers with manuscripts still undergoing major changes to significant elements (plot development, characters, etc.) or those seeking a final manuscript Proofreading polish.

We'll dive into the nitty-gritty of what sets apart great books.

Mark-up on manuscripts is done using a combination of Track Changes features and in-text comments. We will comb through your writing line-by-line and make sure your manuscript packs a punch.

Take Your Dream to the Next Level

A quality line- and copyedit is the clean coat of paint after the major renovation. It just brings the whole piece together! Contact me for a free consultation.
